As a front-end developer, I build the part of websites and web applications that users see and interact with. I mainly work with Angular, Vue, React, WordPress, and Craft CMS.

How do you describe your role at Simple Code?

I'm passionate about my work because I have a flexible, adaptive, and fair management style, supportive team members, and a challenging work environment with interesting projects. I love being able to create something amazing and how my skills continue to improve over time.

What is your favorite part about working in Simple Code?

Challenges? Let me think… One of the challenges I face as a developer is figuring out how to solve problems in the code. I usually take some time to think about it and consult with my colleagues for suggestions.

What are the typical challenges at your job? How do you overcome them?

In my free time, I like to relax and spend time with my family. I enjoy lounging on a sunny terrace, recharging my batteries, and taking care of my health. In the winter, we often go skiing in the mountains.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I think my colleagues would describe me as a focused, hardworking, and positive team member. They would say that I am always willing to help and bring a positive attitude to the team.
I am always looking for ways to improve our team's success, and I am known for my strong communication and effective listening skills. One of my colleagues once said that the projects I manage run like a Swiss clock, and I like to think that is still the case. Overall, I believe my colleagues and team members would describe me as a dedicated and supportive team player.

How would your colleagues and team describe you?

I enjoy being able to lead a team of talented professionals and help them achieve their goals. Seeing the team come together and produce a final product that satisfies our client is very fulfilling for me.
Additionally, I appreciate the opportunity to grow as a leader and learn from my team. Their feedback is valuable to me and helps me become a better leader and developer. Overall, I enjoy the challenges and opportunities that come with my position.

What do you like most about your position?

I believe that organization and communication are essential for success in a fast-paced environment. By prioritizing tasks and making sure that everyone is working on the right things, we can ensure that we are completing them on time.
I also believe in giving people the opportunity to contribute in areas where they can be most effective. This helps us solve tasks more quickly and efficiently. Additionally, automation plays a big role in speeding up processes and allowing us to focus on what is most important. Overall, a combination of these strategies helps us achieve our objectives in a fast-paced environment.

How do you achieve objectives in a fast-paced environment?

There have been many small changes that I have helped bring about over the years, such as improvements to our processes for code quality, testing, and deployment. One significant change was the upgrade of our server pool and the increased use of Docker to convert all of our projects to it. This improved our CI/CD and deployment process, which has made a big difference in how we work. Additionally, we have created our own onboarding procedure and testing process for candidates. We still have a few Windows experts on our team, but once we have converted them to using UNIX, life will be much easier for everyone.

How has your work at the company contributed to positive change?

Well… yes and no. I do have a separate room which I use “as an office” most of the time, but sometimes, I feel the most productive in my bed with my laptop in my lap.

You work 100 % remote. Do you have a designated work zone in your home office?

What I enjoy the most is definitely time management. I can wake up at 7:50 and start work at 8. The same goes for the end of the day. I can be done with work and immediately switch to things I like to do in my free time. Also, I can cool my room as much as I want and play music as loud as I want. I think remote work really has its perks.

What do you enjoy most about remote work?

I think that depends on developers themselves but one thing that comes to mind is being assigned to multiple projects. If you constantly switch back and forth, you can lose traction on what has been done or needs to be done on each project and also lose time and focus while you get your mindset back to that specific project.

What are the challenges associated with time management and work organization for a developer?

To be honest, I’m not really sure. I've wanted to be a programmer ever since I’ve gotten my first PC. I started with QBasic and C. Going forward, I tried a number of languages and realized that I’m most comfortable with C-style languages. As I fell in love with web development, JavaScript just stuck with me and I just wanted to keep getting better at it.

Why are you interested so much in JavaScript, compared to other programming languages?

Don’t rush. Don’t take shortcuts. Learn something new code related every day. Play with code. Dissect every line you write and understand why something works the way it does. It will help you so much in the long run.

Any tips for young developers who want to enter the industry?

I am passionate about people, communication, and soft skills. I have been interested in psychology and human behavior since I was young, which led me to pursue a career in social pedagogy. During my university years, I became more interested in business culture and eventually found myself at the core of the HR department at Simple Code.

What are you passionate about?

I am impressed by the company's values, which include treating everyone with respect and kindness and delivering enjoyable and innovative experiences. These values align closely with my own professional values. I believe that kindness and respect are essential for building positive relationships, but I am also results-oriented and understand the importance of maintaining high business standards and ethics for the company's growth. I am excited to work and grow here.

Which of the company values resonates most with you?

My priorities are always changing, so I rely on a variety of tools to work efficiently. For internal communication and engagement, we use Slack. I use Google Forms and ClickUp to conduct surveys, BambooHR for an employee database, hiring, time-off tracking, and other HR tasks. When scheduling meetings or interviews, I use Calendly or Google Calendar. Any tasks I need to complete are managed through Trello.

What tools do you use to work efficiently?

I spend a lot of time sitting during the day, so I appreciate team-building activities that involve physical activity, such as paintball, laser tag, hiking, etc.. I also enjoy organizing and playing games with my colleagues during lunch breaks. My team members are often competitive, so they enjoy quiz-games as well.

What’s your favorite team-building activity?

As a front-end developer, I create websites and apps using WordPress, Craft, and Angular. I really enjoy my job and often feel like I'm getting paid to do a hobby. I love learning and trying new things, and my programming skills come from my high school background where I learned to use logic and critical thinking.

Can you tell us more about your role and background?

I appreciate that the work environment encourages independence, autonomy, and the acquisition of new knowledge. My colleagues are relaxed and understanding of mistakes as a part of the learning process. Everyone is willing to offer advice, help with unsolvable problems, discuss issues, or simply listen to my thoughts. My team has a great work ethic, and it's a pleasure to work in such a welcoming environment.

What do you like the most about working at Simple Code?

After 2 years at Simple Code, I don't consider myself a "know-it-all" (like some people might think). New and challenging projects are always coming up and keeping me on my toes. Over the past year, I believe I've become much more independent and developed a better understanding of how to tackle problems. I write cleaner and better code, and I rely a lot more on documentation.

What do you see as the biggest accomplishment since you started 2 years ago?

If I could go back in time, I wish I knew everything I know now. I've realized how important it is to know the basics of programming and a specific programming language. If I had known those things, it would have significantly sped up my learning journey.

What’s one thing you wish you knew before you started working here?

Professionally, I see myself as an independent front-end developer who can handle and master all possible technologies. I don't want to feel overwhelmed in the future when a client asks for some crazy animation to be implemented.

In what ways do you expect to grow professionally?

As a manager, I have a greater level of responsibility than my employees. My days can be hectic as I balance the need to meet my own requirements and those of my employees. I typically start my day early, at around 6-7 am, and try to plan my schedule carefully to avoid interruptions. I prioritize my tasks and try to complete the most important ones early in the morning. My meetings are typically scheduled for 10 am and after lunch at 1 pm. In the afternoon, I try to focus on tasks that are not too demanding and do not take up a lot of my time.

Describe your daily routine as a managing director. How is your day structured?

When working with new clients, the first step is to understand their needs. The more we learn about each other, the more trust we can build. We aim to be a valued partner by protecting our client's interests and providing practical solutions. If any problems or complaints arise during a project, we deal with them immediately. This shows our commitment to our clients and helps to build trust. If the business relationship is strong, the client is more likely to return to us for future projects. Following this pattern, we have developed a network of clients who have been happy to work with us for several years.

How do you build trusting relationships with new clients?

I believe that our company is doing several things right at the moment. We are focused on improving our technical skills and staying up to date with developments in technology. Our company values innovation and technological advancement, and we encourage teamwork and brainstorming. New employees are able to thrive under the guidance of a mentor, and our team members enjoy serving as mentors. Work-life balance is also very important to us, and we prioritize flexible schedules, generous vacation time, and a healthy work environment. We encourage our employees to challenge themselves without risking burnout

What do you think we are doing right in the company at the moment?

The thing I like most about my position is that the work is at the same time both challenging and stimulating, while it also makes me adapt quickly and constantly learn new things.

What do you like about your position?

Some of the challenges I had in my first month included getting used to the principles and best practices used in the company to write clean, reusable and semantic code. Also I’ve never until now really had a need to deeply learn all of the git collaborative commands and features, which was a great learning experience while also being challenging.

Can you identify some 	challenges you have had in the beginning?

The best thing about all of this is that all of my colleagues have been nothing but helpful when it comes to helping a junior developer out. I’m positively amazed at the readiness and the genuine willingness to help. Everyone at the company will always have time for any question or problem that I come to them with, willingly taking time from their projects and their workday to help me out and mentor me.

What do you think of the company's culture?

When it comes to my initial expectations, I did expect it to a certain degree but never in this genuine way and not from every single person in the company.
When it comes to company culture, I think the reasons already mentioned speak for themselves, but all of that included, I really like the laid-back and friendly atmosphere in the office. This is only my subjective interpretation, but I really get the feeling people like coming to work, which is the most important aspect of the workplace in my opinion.
